WEST COUNTY FORUM

On May 14th, the West County Forum will be hosting candidates for the Richmond Mayoral and City Council positions. Richmond is having a primary election on June 2nd, so this Forum is coming at a very important time. There are three city council seats (Districts 2,3, and 4) and the Mayoral seat up for election so this will definitely be a very informative Forum.

We had a great presentation from Vince Robb, Contra Costa County Assistant Assessor, at the April Forum. He provided a wealth of knowledge about what the Assessor’s office does and does not do. We also heard about some interesting nuances of Propositions 13 and 19. Robb emphasized that property owners are encouraged to call their office if they have any concerns or questions about the valuation of their property. By doing so, these matters can often be easily remedied and help to avoid a complicated case before the Assessor’s Appeals Board, which is similar to a court proceeding.

Thursday, April 9

On April 9th, our guest speaker will be Contra Costa County Assistant Assessor, Vince Robb. He will cover various topics to include what the Assessor’s office does and does not do, how they are there to serve the public, as well as to provide information about different tax exemptions and exclusions that exist for residents/taxpayers. Robb will also cover the most recent change to property tax law in the passing of Proposition 19 and how that changed the ability of seniors to transfer their tax bases, and the ability of parents to transfer their tax base to their children.

On Thursday we heard from Mark Heringer, Managing Director, and Natalie Tovani-Walchuk, Chief Impact Officer, about GO Public Schools.

They shared a lot of data and analysis about our local educational environment. We heard about various topics ranging from advocacy, education reform, programming, data reporting, enrollment/attendance, special education, and roadblocks for improvement.
